What qualifies here
Texas counts the same broad set of agricultural uses everywhere: Cattle, Goats & Sheep, Horses, Poultry, Exotic Animals, Row Crops, Hay Production, Market Garden, Beekeeping, Timber Production, Orchard / Vineyard, Aquaculture. What changes county to county is the degree of intensity each one has to reach.
Blanco CAD qualifies livestock on carrying capacity rather than acreage alone, and tracts of 10 acres or less are presumed residential.
Minimum acreage and intensity
| Minimum acreage, beekeeping | 5 acres |
|---|---|
| Stocking rate, improved pasture | 1 animal unit per 15 acres |
| Stocking rate, native pasture | 1 animal unit per 25 acres |
Stocking rates are the district's starting point, not a guarantee. Soil, pasture condition and the rest of your operation move the number.
Bees
6 hives minimum.
From the county's published guidelines, last reviewed April 2026.
Beekeeping qualifies on tracts of 5 to 20 acres under Tax Code 23.51. The hive count is set by your appraisal district, not by the state. How beekeeping valuation works.
Wildlife option
Land already under a 1-d-1 agricultural valuation can move to wildlife management and keep the same low value. You file a wildlife management plan on PWD-885 with the application, and you keep managing for the practices the plan names.
Minimum tract if subdivided: 20 acres (12.5 with a wildlife management association).
From the county's published guidelines, last reviewed April 2026.
